Veterans Day Party

World war 1 officially ended when the treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 in the Palace of Versailles. However, fighting had ceased 7 months earlier on the 11th hour of the 11day of the 11month. For that reason Nov.11, 1918 is generally regarded as the end of the "war of to end all wars."

Veterans Day is an American holiday honoring military Veterans. It is both a Federal holiday and a state holiday in all states. It is celebrated on the same day as Armistice day or Remembrance day. In other parts of the world, falling on November 11 the Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1.

Veterans day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service to acknowledge that their contribution to the United States national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served, not only those who died- have sacrificed and done their duty.

The original concept was to make it a day of celebration with parades and public meetings, however that concept never took hold and today it is only observed as a holiday by government offices and banks.
